Our current outdoor enclosures for our young Greeks measure 10' x 5' x 18" and are made out of wood. As always, we keep our subspecies and regions housed separately.
There is a layer of wire mesh across the bottom of each pen, and also across the top. This helps to prevent the tortoises from digging out, and also keeps predators out.
Each enclosure has 6' of shade screen, and 4' of direct sunlight. This allows our tortoises to bask when they want to, and escape the extreme summer temperatures that we experience here.
All enclosures are hinged on one side which allows them to be propped open for cleaning and maintenance.
We provide wood and rocks for a more natural environment. These items also provide sight barriers and hiding places for the tortoises.
We've grown weeds, broadleaf greens, and flowers from seed mixes to provide a more natural and healthier food source for our tortoises. The abundant supply allows for our tortoises to graze all they want.
We've taken plastic storage bins and converted them into humid hides that are located in each enclosure. Each hide has moist sphagnum moss to maintain humidity and provide a nice place for the tortoises to rest.
